On 17th July 2025, we at Perera & Sons (P&S) proudly celebrate 123 years of serving Sri Lanka, a legacy rooted in family values, rich culinary heritage, and generations of shared memories. As one of the most iconic homegrown food brands in Sri Lanka, we’ve touched millions of lives with our signature flavours and timeless presence.
Founded in 1902, we began as a modest bakery and have grown into a beloved national institution, deeply woven into the fabric of Sri Lankan daily life. As generations have passed, so too has the legacy: from parent to child, from grandparent to grandchild. Today, many young Sri Lankans are rediscovering what their families have loved for decades and making it their own.
With over 228 outlets islandwide, our presence is as widespread as our emotional reach. And while the scale has grown, the spirit remains unchanged: to serve food that’s honest, dependable and full of flavour.
Our Managing Director, Gihan Perera, the fourth generation of the founding family, comments:
“This anniversary is deeply personal to us. It’s about the people who’ve supported us for over a century: the customers who welcomed us into their homes, the employees who upheld our values, and the communities we’ve grown with.
We’re proud to welcome the fifth generation of the family into the business, who I’m sure will guide the company successfully into the future. Today, the soul of P&S remains just as it was, humble, local, and true. Even after 123 years, P&S continues to evolve, blending nostalgia with relevance.”
For over a century, we’ve been present in the quiet, everyday moments that matter the most: the school interval bun clutched in a child’s hand; the short eats shared at family gatherings; the ribboned cake on a birthday table; and the comforting lunch enjoyed between busy coworkers. These are not mere meals: they are precious moments created by us.
This year’s anniversary theme, ‘Decades of Delicious Memories’, is an invitation to reflect and reconnect with all the ways we’ve been a part of your lives. Whether as children or as adults, the comfort of knowing your favourite snack is around the corner is unparalleled. Today, we invite the youth to join in making memories of their own and embrace their life’s journey with us — to make it part of their own story.
In recent years, we’ve embraced change, engaging younger audiences through digital platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, creating content that feels fresh, familiar and fun. Whether through limited-edition product innovations, playful online interactions or a modern loyalty programme like ‘Family First’, we invite today’s youth to take ownership of the P&S story and make it part of their own rhythm.
Beyond taste, we’ve also expanded our role as a responsible corporate citizen. Through our CSR platform, ‘Manu Mehewara’, we support causes in education, healthcare, social welfare and environmental sustainability.
Annually, we make clean drinking water accessible to tens of thousands of families under Manu Mehewara by installing Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants and rainwater collection & purification units in rural communities and schools.
We continue to serve with purpose. These initiatives align with key UN Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), SDG 10 (reduced inequalities) and SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production).
Moreover, we find absolute pride in putting a smile on the faces of the children at the Indira Cancer Trust (ICT) and will continue to do so for years to come.
As we look toward the future, our mission remains simple but powerful: to continue crafting food that brings people together, and to do so with the same care, trust and local pride that has defined the past 123 years. We continue to build on our legacy by proudly taking Sri Lankan heritage to the world as part of our global mission to ‘Elevate Sri Lanka’s Finest Flavours Worldwide’, reflecting our timeless symbol of excellence, both at home and beyond.
On the special occasion of our 123rd anniversary, we extend a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to every Sri Lankan who has made us part of their lives — from the little hands that reached for their first bun, to the families who’ve shared a lifetime of memories around our flavours, making ‘Decades of Delicious Memories’.
