The waste management project initiated by Perera and Sons, under Manu Mehewara CSR Project is successfully operating with the support of Mr Nihal Perera. Commenting on the project, Mr Nihal Perera said, “the initiative was launched in 2018 and registered under the Central Environmental Authority of Sri Lanka (CEAS). The main objective was to control the wastage of all the Perera and Sons branches across the country. “The transportation of the wastage is sent to collection centre located at Pita Kotte, where reusable products like bottles, cardboard and plastic material will be cleaned, sterilized and later used for various purposes”. He further added, “Our team is tirelessly working to make this great initiative a success and see that there will be more recycling and minimum wastage. The selected products are sent for recycling to a facility in Horana, where the recycling process takes place”. Each year more than 15 metric tons are sent for recycling, and the main objective of Perera and Sons is to highlight the importance of recycling, encouraging the community to recycle and create a clean and green environment in the coming years.
